Welcome to my website

I’m Rui Fang, a Zassenhaus Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics at The Ohio State University (since Aug. 2025). I completed my Ph.D. in Mathematics at the University of Pittsburgh under the guidance of Prof. William Layton (webpage).

Turbulent flows are chaotic and hard to predict. My research develops smarter numerical methods — combining data assimilation, ensemble simulations, machine learning, and structure-preserving algorithms — to extend how far into the future we can trust flow simulations. This helps scientists study climate patterns, design energy systems, and model complex physical phenomena.
